Why Scholarships Are Better Than Financial Aid

Many Community Colleges are finding that by giving out performance scholarships that they have less drop outs and more students who stay to complete their course of study. Unfortunately, many students have a wide range of burdensome obligations that prevent them from completing their academic studies and often the effort is just not there. The problems faced by these students range from work overload, family obligations, and inadequate financial aid which causes them to drop out of school. It is a sad thing because with the proper education some of these problems would be resolved.

The Community Colleges are finding that when a student is putting forth their best effort and really trying hard that by giving them a performance scholarship it helps to relieve some of their burdens and makes them try harder to complete their education. Studies have been done that prove by giving a performance scholarship it helps boost student retention, grades, and credit load. It has been found that these performance scholarships given to the low-income and minority groups a success in that they finish their studies with a higher grade level and usually end up with a much higher paying job. When a student who comes from a lower income family and improves then that helps to cut the welfare programs expenses and improves society as a whole.

Many times a young person just needs the opportunity to succeed in life in order to become a self supporting person. We all need that one chance or opportunity to improve on our life. Everyone wants an abundant life providing for themselves and their family. Many Community College officials that recognize this are now trying to help the students by providing them with a special “Performance Scholarship” and it seems to be working out rather well for the student and the college. The federal government recognizes the need and has set out many different types of grants that help to pay for books and tuition fee’s but it seems with the cost of today education it is never enough.

The student should consider these expenses while still in high school especially their senior year it gives them the opportunity to work and save some money for when they start college. The college of choice for most students is a Community College because it is close to home, no expense of living on campus, the tuition is cheaper, and normally it only takes two years of accredited studies in order for a student to graduate and get that promising profession that will help them to have an abundant life.
